ABOUT

I am delighted to welcome you to the 6th edition of Composers+Summer Academy. This international event began in 2014 as a small composers camp in the village of Palendriai at St. Benedict’s Monastery. In later years it continued in the Raudondvaris Castle Arts Incubator and now it is based in the resort town of Druskininkai in the south of Lithuania.

As in previous years, the main focus of Composers+Summer Academy 2019 will be to create new works for accordion, both as a solo instrument and with chamber ensemble. This collaboration platform remains the most essential element of the course. The purpose of the event is to gather together composers and performers in one place and provide opportunities for them to work together on new, undiscovered sounds and material. Now its sixth year, Composers+ will again be held in the resort town of Druskininkai in the south of Lithuania.

This year we are again delighted to introduce a wide variety of tutors and lecturers: Composer Rūta Vitkauskaitė has witnessed the Composers+Summer Academy evolve since its founding in 2014; Andreas Borregaard is recognized as one of the world‘s most exciting young accordionists. Also participating will be the founder and artistic director of the Academy, internationally acclaimed accordionist Martynas Levickis, and Maris Rozenfelds, an alumnus of Composers+, who is working on his Master’s thesis about collaboration between composers and accordionists.

As well as working closely with Academy tutors, participants will take part in a host of workshops, rehearsals and seminars. In addition, Composers+Summer Academy will also host a series of concerts featuring a range of performers and musical genres. This will include a final concert, presenting world premieres of the pieces developed during the Academy. All the pieces composed at the Composers+Summer Academy will be professionally recorded, printed and published. Moreover, the venue for this year’s Composers+Summer Academy is a recreation hotel, and all spa treatments including massages, yoga sessions, swimming pool etc. will be available to the participants free of charge.

The Composers+Summer Academy aims to create and showcase modern music for the broadest possible audience, presenting new music for accordion in accessible and interesting ways. Valuable technical skills and artistic insights are provided by tutors of international reputation and expertise. We hope the Academy participants will be inspired to continue this work of developing new repertoire for accordion.
